So tonight I'm scrolling down Facebook and I see a link a friend of mine has posted to raise money for a race she is running in June. I casually click on it only to find out she is running it for my sister who was diagnosed with Crohns 5 years ago. This friend of mine is one of my best from high school and over the past 7 years we've really only probably seen each other a handful of times..it just goes to show how treasured a good friend is. I read through what she wrote and I'm literally crying; I had no idea. I am so grateful that God has blessed me with such a wonderful friend! Please consider sponsering her race, even the tiniest donation will make a difference! Let's help my friend reach her goal and kick Crohns' butt!
This was my second go at seeing Chris August in concert, and I was A LOT less freaked out about it! Okay, I'll admit I was a little bit concerned that I could have freaked him out a little bit last time but this time I was just mostly excited to go and enjoy myself and more or less worried about just getting there on time. I over think most everything and my mind had been on many other things so that probably helped. The show (Redeemed tour..so it mostly included Big Daddy Weave with a dash of Citizen Way and a dash of Chris August) was a good 1 1/2ish drive away and the doors opened for VIP at 5 and I got off work at 3:45. It was a race against time and I had been fighting off feeling sick all week..determined to not be because I knew I had this show.
We get there and are the second to last people in VIP line before it get's cut off. A "local" Christian College has set up camp in a booth right outside the (inner) doors and one of the girls comes over and talks to us. She is extremely nice and we chit chat about Chris August (she's a fan too :)). The line moves and she tells us to come let her know if he remembers me (which I'm sad to inform we never did go back to talk to her). We first meet Citizen Way (two sets of brothers that areWisconsin natives...woot woot!) and they all introduce themselves and ask our names and we take a group picture. They are genuinely REALLY nice guys.
Citizen Way, my sister and I
Next up is Chris along with a couple of the Big Daddy Weave guys, we walk over and Chris says "Tabitha right?" I tell him yes and that he just made my day. We take a group picture..which is kinda awkward looking because everyone was kinda mushed together but spread out at the same time but I love it, so whatever.
Chris, Me, B, and Big Daddy Weave
We then head to find our seats and end up in the 7th row in between two older couples, one of which has easily become my favorite people that have ever sat near me during a concert/show. They were the couple to the left of us and they had a paper bag full of goodies..cookies and coffee. The guy also made a handy little contraption out of his glasses by attaching earplugs to the ends and asking us if we think he'd need them. I joked that he must have known he'd be sitting near my sister. They ask us who we are there to see and I quickly respond with Chris August, to which he says "Oh" and smiles. He clearly has no clue who I"m talking about. The show starts and Citizen Way is on stage, I am impressed. These guys were really good and I can't wait until their cd is released. I would definitely go see them again.
Ben Calhoun, lead singer of Citizen Way
Then Mike Weaver (Big Daddy himself) comes on stage to announce Chris August, joking that you may not be able to see him because of the camouflage. The couple next to me makes jokes about Chris August and nudge me every time someone says his name, they also cheer...it's a grande old time. Chris comes equipped with a full band decked out computer named Cletus, magic tricks to amp up the show, lots of jokes, and sweet vocals of course. I'm bummed that everyone sat through his set but it was amazing and I like some of the special little things he did with Cletus.
Cletus and Chris
Oooooooh I almost forgot I have a whole like 2 seconds of vocals..but I'll share with you :)
Next up is intermission, which in the couple next to us asks if we are having fun and informs me that they enjoyed Chris August. They think he has a great vocal range and a great sense of humor (I agree). Then B and I head out to the foyer to just kinda hang (ok..really to try to figure out where Chris is hanging out). He's hanging out in the greenroom hallway so B calls out to him and he head over. We just kinda sit and chat for a while, about the show, converting the couple next to me into fans, little sisters, and snow and such. It's pretty awesome. We take a picture and as the conversation dies down I say we're gonna head back inside to which he says "WAIT you're leaving?!" I tell him no we aren't leaving we are just gonna go back into the show and he tells me to come back and see him before we leave at the end of the show..he'll hang out by his merch table...I promise we will and we head back inside.
By this time Big Daddy Weave is a good way into their set and we come in just in time to hear our fave song of theirs :). It's a fun time and I really don't have many pictures (all of 2) because they had a pretty hardcore light show which was mostly pointed into my eyes a lot and it was just hard to get pictures. They end the night in worship and prayer and some really healing things happen. After this I think it's safe to say I would go see BDW any time they are in the area.
We gather our things and head back out to the front to meet up with Chris as promised. It's freezing out there because they have all the doors open and it's below zero outside and he is not to be seen. We just kinda hang out in his merch table area. It's just us and a big group of kids that are talking/taking photos with Ben from Citizen Way.
Chris finally makes his way out and I ask if I can take a pic on my camera( because B won't send hers to me right away) and he says yea and tells me to sit down next to him. We chit chat with him again for a while. He does his Kermit impression both just vocal and starry night version for B after I tell him a story of how our brother thought that B would be a frog and so when my mom was pregnant we called her Kermie. At this point there is a line forming behind us so we say our goodbyes and He promises to come back to the area soon.
Although this time it wasn't ask shocking it was really fun that he remembered me and to just sit and chit chat. Now I just can't wait til April ;)
Wrote this months ago and have been putting off posting it...don't know exactly why but I just needed to sit on it for a while. Seeing as I will see him again in concert in a few weeks here I figured it was time..
Bear with me here, because I promise you this get's really exciting.
Ugh, so I know it's been a few weeks since the Eye On It show...hey, the tour itself is even over now, but I just still don't even know how I can put this night into words. (And I REALLY don't want to fangirl). It was BY FAR the best concert I've ever been to, and I've been to my fair share.
And now it's been more than just a few weeks..it's been over a month and I go over and over what I want to write on this thing and I just can't decide. Not sure why it's so important to me, but I just don't want to "get it wrong." It was one of (if not the) best nights of my life and I just really want the words to come out right..so bear with me here.
Over the past year I have sent out a lot of emails trying to get someone to book Chris August in my area. It all started with that whole cruise thing..i decided I couldn't wait any longer I just HAD to meet him. I received a few responses (but nothing concrete has come out of them...YET :) ). Nonetheless I was quite pleased to hear that he would be opening for Toby Mac in a town that is an hour and a half away. Buy the tickets..front row center. Is it crazy to buy front row center tickets just to see the opening act? I mean Toby Mac is great in concert, I've seen him before, but I would be lying to you if I said I was going there to see anyone except Chris August. I mean if you are here I'm assuming you are one of the like 4 people that have read this blog before and already know how much I love Chris August, and some of the reasons why, so this should come as no surprise to you.
We make our way to pick up my sister's boyfriend (he goes to college in the town Chris is performing) and to go out to dinner. At this point I kinda feel bad for them...I'm so nervous and antsy..it's getting close to the time of the show and I'm pretty sure I just keep saying "Are you still eating? Are you done yet?" I mean I can't even describe to you how nervous I was, I have never felt that way in my life. I was shaking, I think I teared up a little bit..it was just out of my control..and I really don't know why.
We get there..and i make them bust their butts from the car to the venue. At this point I ask the usher to show us our seats and I'm so glad that I did because someone was sitting in them! They also had the nerve to say I was in the wrong seat! So glad the usher was there to kick them out. Now I really have to pee, but don't want to leave my seat, and I'm freaking out because the microphone is like 2 feet from me!
Jamie Grace is up first and I run for the bathroom. She was fantastic, and her boots were fantastic, and she was inspiring..and I can't say enough good things about her..but I am ANTICIPATING CA.
And this is the part..even now writing this, I loose my words. My brain is like a twisted, jumbled, mess of emotion. UGH! This is the part that Chris August comes on stage! He's wonderful and he is playing the keyboard and singing like 2 feet from me and he's cracking jokes and I'm cracking up..and I am in heaven! Pretty sure no one behind me is standing, but I don't even care!
Then he gets up and dances around while singing (pretty sure it was to Let the Music Play?) This is important guys! When he's done..he's working his way back to the keyboard and someone yells something at him and he's like "Sorry I can't here you over my breathing I have..." And we both say "ASTHMA" and he's like "ahhh I see I have a connection with someone here" And I'm like "YES! I LOVE YOU!" And he starts to say "I lov......TABITHA IS THAT YOU?!"
Not even kidding guys, Chris August looked down at me from the stage and said "Tabitha is that you?"!!!
I can not tell you what happened after this. It is a blur. Best moment of my life. I guess it's important to point out that we'd never met before! And I think at this point I'm practically falling over the banister thing in front of me in disbelief and he's like half explaining to the crowd that he recognizes me from twitter? I don't even know!
THEN he says "Can we meet real quick? I wanna meet you!" and comes and shakes my hand. I am now shaking and in total disbelief so I sit down to calm down and try to text someone/anyone what just happened but I'm shaking and MY PHONE IS BROKEN! THE SCREEN WON'T TURN ON! This is probably the only time that this could ever happen and me not care! Also, I'm really glad this is when he sings 7x70 because I am toooooo hyped up to start crying and I really need a serious song so I can relax a bit. I still don't really know how he knows who I am..so hey Chris if you're reading this wanna clue me in? (And quite honestly I reallllllly hope he's not reading this..cuz I think I would probably be real embarrassed.)
(This was right after "meeting"..and is a terrible picture but I think it captures how I really could barely control my excitement!)
I go out by the merch table during intermission because a little birdie told me he was there and he wasn't allowed to take pics with people in order to get through everyone. NO WAY am I leaving without getting my picture with him! So I just kinda stand off to the side until everyone clears out. It's just a couple and I left and I take a picture of them with Chris and they return the favor. And misc. picture taking lady..in the very slight chance that you would ever come across this I have two things to say to you. 1) THANK YOU SO MUCH and 2) You are freaking amazing at taking pictures! You zoomed and everything! I really can't thank you enough!
So I don't know..I think I'm gonna leave it at that..I stayed and talked to him a bit. He is super nice, and (almost) everything I expected. He was not as outgoing as I expected. He thanked me for coming and when I said I can't believe he recognized me he said that was the first time that ever happened to him.
Ugh second time "SYTYCD" was just blacked out on my tv..so I ran around the house until I could find it working!!! Way to make me nervous Time Warner
Jidges: Nigel, Mary, Tyce, Debbie, Lil C, and THE Adam Shankman! Loving the bow ties gents
"Torn"
The girls are wearing socks with those dresses right..for part of it? I kinda like it..quirky. Favorite group routine so far. This is the best..when at the end it's just the top 4 left!!!
Nigel's pick: TITANIC ROUTINE Audrey and Matthew
Thank you Nigel! Fav routine of the season!
Lil C: Witney and Twitch
Love Wit in this routine, good choice Lil C double hashtag bucc. #oldsytycdreference #waitingforthebus
Debbie: George and Tiffany Sonya poiece "Turning Page"
I forgot about this, but once it started I remember really liking it and loving the song and wanting to get it, thanks for the reminder
Shankman's favorite ballroom routine: Paso Cole and Lindsay
Ahh I almost forgot if her name was an a or e...It's been a while.
Tyce: Love Cats. Nappy Tabs
IT makes total sense for Tyce to love this dance the best, it's right up his alley. (See what I just did there ;) )
#4 fav Audition: Bree Hafen This routine made me cry! Completely melted my heart! (sorry I forgot to put the first one)
I really LOVE this routine, mostly because I have always honed right in on anything I can learn about the Holocaust. I read everything about it. It's just something that has always grasped my attention. It pains me now to know he "stole" this choreography though...
Eliana's fave routine: Bang Bang with Alex
This is a great choice, the first time she could just let go and show what she's capable of.
Audition #3 NINJA TWINS! They were SOOOOOO entertaining
Cat's fav routine: Disco (11 lifts) Tiffany and Brandon
One of the best Discos on the series
Haha...Tiffany's outfit is really Shankman's?
Chehon's favorite routine: Argentine Tango with Anya
Didn't see that one coming.
New HIP HOP: Twitch, Comfort, Cyrus and Christopher Scott
I am so hyped to see Christopher Scott dance right now you guys don't even know!!!! Can he come on tour?
Tiffany's favorite routine: The Power of Love with ADE!!!!!!
The other of my two absolute favorite routines this season! Thank you for picking this Tiffany!
Um no..I did not like the 2nd most memorable moment: exorcist...I don't understand why everyone was crying, I didn't like it at ALL.
1st: Dragon House
Carly Rae Jepsen: This Kiss
I freaking LOVE her hair! Ryan and Nathan...SYTYCD alums as a backup dancer! That's right..SYTYCDers booking jobs left and right.
Cyrus' favorite routine: Cyrus and Twitch
this is a given favorite.for him. What's up with them overlapping the "live" footage with the tape. Hey, we got to see Christopher Scott again.
Ahh you know what though..I kinda wish we would have got to see the DUBSTEP routine again! That was great!
Judging from the screams, I think Cyrus is the winner for the guys.
New! Nappytabs top 20 routine(kinda) TOP 10 PLUS ALL STARS: LION KING
omw Will must be in HEAVEN right now! Nappytabs taking hip hop to new heights. Allison must be the best, she is totally standing out above EVERYONE..a group of 20! This dance was the BEST!
And Cat is the best host ever! I love how she interacts with the contestants!
And the (female) winner is....................
ELIANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omw I'm so hyped!!!!!!!!!!
And the (male) winner is.......
Chehon
I am thrilled! but SHOCKED! I truly thought America liked Cyrus best! And that is the first time I think I ever heard papa Jeff's name on the show.
I am SERIOUSLY running around the room screaming! This is one of the most exciting nights of the year for me #sadtruth I LOVE SYTYCD! Until next year guys...well or tour..maybe I'll blog about tour!
Ah and I mean really..TWO BALLET DANCERS JUST FREAKING WON SYTYCD...BALLET IS THE LIKE FOUNDATION OF 99% OF DANCE AND IT JUST MADE A COME BACK!
Opening number:
This number is important, I mean who doesn't still think of Heidi, Donyelle, Travis, and Benji when Sexy Back comes on? O wait...what? There isn't one. I guess it's apparently not important? Maybe at the end of the show...
Eliana and Cyrus: Paso
Cyrus is being a good partner in the fact that he is lifting well, and all you are noticing is her. He is by far being out danced..which only kinda shows in the end when she is the one standing powerfully on the stage.
Tiffany and Will: Sonya
This routine is obviously very technically difficult, but it doesn't seem like a finale standout routine. She's killing it, but I'm just worried at the end of the night no one will remember it, and she didn't do anything to deserve not being remembered. I mean Sonya always choreographs brilliantly, but she usually get's your emotions involved in it...and this was the first routine I think she didn't give them that opportunity.
Eliana and Chehon: Ballet, duh!
I think this is the first time classical ballet has been a featured routine on the show, which when you think about it is extraordinary seeing as this is the ninth season and ballet is the foundation of most all styles of dance. They are dancing flawlessly and are breathtakingly beautiful. It takes serious control to make all of that craziness look so effortless. Those may be the two winners ladies and gents.
Cyrus and Tiffany: lyrical hip hop with someone that isn't Nappy Tabs
Ok the first couple seconds and I'm feeling like here is the SYTYCD I know and love again. This is what they need to be given in the finale, this may put them back in the running.
Ok, here it is. TOP 4 ROUTINE: Tyce Diorio
What a PERFECT fusion of all of their styles that really showed them all off. I don't know how much it flowed, or how much it will stand out when it comes to all 9 seasons of the top 4 dances. However, I do really appreciate that they sincerely tried to show them all off.
Eliana: solo
Watching her dance makes me remember why I wanted to in the first place, and I know I've said that before but that's really significant to me. I haven't danced in a while and she makes me want to again. She reminds me what it is I love about dance.
Chehon and Allison : Stacey Tookey
2 points for Chehon so far, this piece is being danced beautifully.Best piece so far?
TOP TWO GIRLS: Eliana and Tiffany: burlesque/broadway
Eliana obviously has the advantage here. This is definately the most standout piece so far whether it's your cup of tea or not, it's the only one that is vying for a place in the finale.
Cyrus: solo
If you don't expect his solo to be brilliant you are just bitter because you are mad that your favorite got cast off. I say this, with him not being my favorite, ever. His solos are untouchable.
Tiffany: solo
she's fantastic
Top TWO GUYS:Chehon and Cyrus:Sonya
The top two guys routines are always the best! This is a routine that should be in the fainle for sure! Hope to see this one on tour!
Someone from Paris:
It's nice that they are showing how people of varied abilities can dance, but honestly I just would rather see more of the top 4 so I can decide who i want to win!
Chehon: solo
Yes, he is dancing for his life. Best solo for him so far.
Eliana and Alex: Travis Wall routine!!
This is the positive of when they get to dance with all-stars, the all-stars are if not at the same level, better than them so they get to just let go and fully perform and show what they are capable of. Travis is a brilliant choreographer and they danced this beautifully!
Tiffany and Chehon: Dmitry rumba
Beautiful. I don't really think there are any other words for it than that.
Cyrus and Twitch: Animation
Very cool. First time he got to do a choreographed combination and just be himself. I can't believe Nigel just told us who he wants to win, and I'm honestly shocked. I thought he was partially the reason Cyrus was still here.
What was your favorite routine of the night? What two dancers do you want to win next week?
This routine was so good and really gave an opportunity to compare the dancers side by side.
Guest jidge: Christina Applegate
Yay! She's a fun one! Cole and All-star Melanie:
NOW THIS IS A DANCE ROUTINE! This was perfect in every way. Melanie is a BEAST! And Cole made sure she did not outshine him. This is just what he needed! Ahhhhhhhh soooooooo good!
Witney solo:
I know this is not popular opinion, but I think she just gets better as the weeks go on!
Tiffany and All-star Benji: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! BENJI!! He is my favorite SYTYCDer ever and I'm SOOOOOOO excited! This dance is so much fun and Tiffany must be having a BLAST! I was so happy to see the signature double cartwheel..it just wouldn't be a Benji routine without one.
Eliana:
She has the best solo of the night so far. It was magical! She just has this quality about her that makes ballet what I remember seeing it as before I danced, when I was a little girl.
Witney and All-star Marko:
I would like to start this by saying IHOP! (;) if you get that). Also, Marko shaved his head. Also, remember the time (like only a week or 2 ago) when SYTYCD tour page posted the pic I took of Marko kissing my sister's cheek on their twitter and facebook? Yea me too, that was exciting. THIS PIECE EMPHASIZES MY POINT THAT WITNEY CAN DANCE MORE THAN JUST BALLROOM! She is outstanding! This piece was magical and brilliant and I loved it! Oh, it is such a good night of dancing! And then tomorrow will come, and I will read online that everyone hated all the pieces and I will be mad at you, because I love them and I love SYTYCD.
Cole:
Okay Cole, I will admit it: you are a REALLY good dancer. Well done.
Chehon and Kathryn:
This piece enchanted me. I feel like most people won't feel the same, but I don't really care. It was a story, and one that was well told, and I love stories.
*apparently this piece was stolen from a different country's sytycd that tyce judged on?*
Tiffany:
It was a very pretty solo.
Eliana and All-star Twitch:
Anyone else love that Twitch is seemingly a mainstay on the show like Nigel or Cat? This routine is very cute. Not my favorite routine ever but Twitch killed the character and Eliana did great.
Chehon:
He brought way more to the routine than I expected him to; I thought he did great.
Cyrus and All-star Comfort:
This night is shaping up to be SO GOOD! First of all just the concept of this routine, the music, and the dancing is just SPOT ON! So exciting to see Cyrus do a little bit of what he does best. ALSO, so exciting to see a hip hop female dancer that is not Lauren G!
Nigel's regards to people questioning why Cyrus is still there..he must be reading tumblr.
Witney and Chehon: Chacha
I feel like Chehon did really well, but Witney was trying to compensate really hard for the little bit he was missing. The lifts seemed really forced and I don't think we were able to see the best of Witney, and it totally wasn't her fault.
Cyrus solo:
You know what, I have not been a Cyrus fan in particular. He's just been there, I haven't been either pro or con when it comes to him. However, I am freaking proud of him. He fought freaking HARD to get to this place, and he is still fighting. His solos are always stand out.
Eliana and Cole: Mia Michaels
From the beginning this routine just crys out that it's going to be great. Mia is such a good storyteller, and she is so good at not only pushing the dancers, but really using their strengths.
Tiffany and Cyrus: Spencer! Broadway
When it started I thought it would be "greater" than it was, but it was still pretty great. Cyrus really kept up, I was highly impressed with them.
Dance company:
I want them to help choreograph a routine for Artie on Glee! That would be fantastic! The lefts and assists were beyond!
Girls: comes down between Witney and Eliana. Eliana stays and Witney goes home. I honestly couldn't have made a decision between the girls, too hard. I think I want Eliana to win now though. Eliana and Witney were my faves.
Boys: comes down to Cole and Cyrus. Cyrus will for sure stay. Everyone is on their feet for Chehon and even both boys seem genuinely excited for him. Yup, Cyrus stays. Cole had to have known at that point, it would have been crazy for Cyrus not to when he's never been in the bottom. But hey, producers can change things...(in my opinion) because Lacey never was in the bottom and she placed fourth. It's just my opinion, but I don't think they wanted sibling winners, especially in sequential seasons.
Tiffany and All-star Brandon disco
Okay, number one the music was an excellent selection. Number two, this is the best disco routine I've seen in some time! What a way to open the show!!
Witney and All-star Nick Jazz
First, let me remind you all that this girl is a BALLROOM DANCER, and this is a JAZZ routine. Emphasis on jazz. Nick is one of the standout Jazz dancers from all 9 seasons, so much so in fact...he WON, and Witney truly held her own! I am becoming more and more of a fan
Cole and All-star Anya cha cha
Dmitry picks the best songs to choreo too that you probably wouldn't guess would be "ballroom" songs. I think as a not ballroom dancer it would be especially intimidating to ballroom dance along side Anya or Pasha. Cole held his own pretty well.
Lindsay and All-star Jakob broadway
The lighting was killer in this piece! Jakob was fantastic! Lindsay was alright. There was something about her that just seemed very...move.move.move..not fluid enough. Even though their were many poses that they needed to hit Jakob had a little more of a flow between them.
Will and All-star Kathryn bollywood
Kathryn is one of my favorites, ever. Bollywood is (almost) always a hit. What I mostly have to say is Will's faces were hilarious throughout the routine and he kept me thoroughly entertained. Bravo.
Cyrus and All-star Jamie- Travis Wall contemporary
I LOVED it and I'm not sure if it's because I mostly watched Jamie, or if Cyrus just seemed to dance flawlessly with Jamie. Truth is I don't care, the fact that I couldn't tell means quite a lot.
Chehon and All-star Lauren G- Dave hip hop routine
It was fine. I think Chehon did a very good job. He transformed well. I think the choreography spot lighted Lauren too much, and that's hard for me to watch. I know she's one of the alumni that get's a spotlight on anything So You Think related, but it's hard for me to like her seeing as to how she treated the other dancers her season.
George and All-star Allison-Tyce
Kind of reminds me of season 1. A little prop, a lot of dance, very jazzy. They both performed on the same level which says a lot about you if you are dancing with Allison.
Eliana and Alex- Stacey Tookey
This is how I've been waiting to see her dance! Thank you Stacey!
Audrey and Twitch- Dave Scott hip hop
I think she did great, and Twitch just gets better as the years go on.
Bottong 2 girls:
Witney and Audrey
Bottom 2 boys:
Chehon and George
Witney:
great music choice, she killed that
Audrey:
She was better, she laid everything on the line
(can't find a video!)
Chehon:
His solo is reminding me of Ade's solos and I LOVE it! The music combined with the musicality makes it so unique and I love it!
can't find video
George:
He's my least fav of those in the bottom but his solo was the best last week so we'll see. His solo's might just save him everytime until they are finally like "You're in the bottom every week time to leave." Yet again, his solo was the best.
can't find video
LA Dance project:
The music started to wear on me towards the end. It became like terrible grade school organ -esque
