SYTYCD10 Top 18/17: My POV July 9, 2013

Opening number: "Pretty Face"
Love the musicality of this piece, how "big moves" come during pauses in music.SHUT UP! It was choreographed by Sonya AND Christopher Scott...that explains a TON.  Of course this dance was amazing!

Jade leaves the competition due to injury.

No one likes that the dancers went home before the show started!  No surprise there.  Glad that they really listen to the audience and switched it up right away.

Guest jidges: Erin Andrews and straight up Paula Abdul is sitting next to Nigel!

Bottom 3:
Guys: Bluprint, Curtis, Jade (None are going home this week because of Jade's injury)
Girls: Jamine Mason, Jenna, Alexis

Dance for your life:
Alexis: Like the music choice, which I think is harder for tap. She's really engaging and is a good performer.
Jasmine: she's dancing really big
Jenna: I keep forgetting she's in the competition to be honest. Ballroom contestants are always great performers. Not blown away, but solos for them are hard and she was solid.

Jasmine H and Aaron Broadway by SPENCER!
I'm actually really impressed by how good they are at Broadway.  Surprising a little bit, and they are sooo smooth.

Makenzie and Paul Contemporary by Lindsay (sorry if I spelled your name wrong girl but they didn't put it up)
Very pretty.

Jasmine M and Alan Jazz by Sean
Love everything about this. I hope she stays this week!

Jenna and Tucker Hip hop by Keone and Mari (really can they spell these names for me please?)
LOVE the song choice! LOVE the costumes. LOVE the choreo, somewhat a mix of pop jazz and hip hop. Jenna could maybe save herself with this.

Amazing, so glad she is getting to dance with Marco (IHOP!)

Is it just me or is some of this out of placingly slow?

Opening:I  feel like I'm watching a insanely interesting ballet! It's very Wade-esque. Like a newer version of Ramalama.

I like Mariah better but I think Brittany is dancing better

Oh Carlos thank you, I've been waiting to see someone to dance to this song!

I'm really upset about this, I REALLY think they are sending the wrong guy home.

I am thinking they may just be a power couple. Knocking everything out of the park

really good. Jasmine was fantastic.

Malece is doing really good at this!

Alexis and Nico: Contemporary by Stacey Tookey
OMW a sequel to one of the best dances! So excited! I want to see Robert and Kathryn do it though!  Soooo beautiful!!

Brittany and Bluprint Broadway by SPENCER!
Spencer is a fave so this is exciting!  My bookish heart is LOVING this routine! Do eligible bachelors hang out in the library? I'm barely paying attention to the actual dancing because I'm just so in love with this idea! Brittany was great!

Jasmine Mason and Alan Tango by Miriam and Leonardo
Love the music! Alan is really strong! Jasmine seems a little stiff but her performance is spot on.

Makenzie and Paul Jazz by Sean Cheesman
OMW I LOVE IT at just 16 counts in! Makenzie is fantastic!

Mariah and Carlos Contemporary Stacey Tookey
Mariah is doing great, and I mean GREAT as a hip hop dancer dancing contemporary. Carlos should not be leaving, and I am VERY unhappy about this! "You keep dancing like this you're gonna end up on the other side of the rainbow"- Mariah

They are killing it! Amy had nothing to worry about!

Jenna and Tucker Chacha by Dmitry
They are dancing well, but there is something about it I'm not loving. I don't know if I'm losing connection with the story, or if I feel like they are overacting.

My fave this week is hard, kinda a tie between the sequel and the library. What was yours?

Live Opening number by NappyTabs: Love that the costumes were chill, it was behind the scenes, and there were choreographers involved!  It's something totally new and different! Plus I LOVE when they let Christopher Scott dance!

-Mariah has such a strong personality that will take her far in terms of performance

Possibly my favorite ballroom routine ever on this show. The storytelling was beautiful!

- She is showing him up. You gotta love though that you can just see how excited he is to be on that stage.

 Jasmine, Makenzie, Nico, Tucker Contemporary by Stacey Tookey-  This is So You Think You can Dance. Soooooooooo beautiful! Stacey Tookey is just so great!

Curtis, Aaron, and Alexis Tap by Anthony M.-
If my tap shoes were as cool as hers maybe I would want to tap more, ah probably not. They are sooo good though. It's hard to have a tap group routine that doesn't get cheesy, they kept it very entertaining.

Bluprint and Jade Animation by CHRISTOPHER SCOTT!- LOVE anytime we get to see Christopher Scott! Love the props! This might be my favorite routine so far!

Hayley, Malece, and Carlos Contemporary by Mia Miachels-
It's 2 seconds in and I'm done. The musicality KILLS! Love that Malece is in this dance! Love the ugly cry make up.

Alan, Brittany, Jenna, and Paul Ballroom by Louis Van Amstel-  Nice high energy piece for the first night. I like the bright colors of the costumes. Very entertaining.

Amy is just sooooooooo unbelievably good!

Top ten guys by Christopher Scott!!!! Sand as a prop...WHATTTTT?! This piece is just blowing my mind.

Very apocolyptic feeling. Her choreo is just so intense!

STYCYD10 Vegas week!

Super bummed that Taylor Ward's knee is holding her back! Hope she tries again next year! Not bummed that the exorcist couldn't come.

Malece Miller is just sooooooo good!

Fik-shun- His musicality is crazy good! Love watching Jason and tWitch watch him. Haha and Shankman standing up in the middle of the routine!

The Mongolian Ball girl rocked it! I'm so glad she gave it enough to stay! Would love to see something different on the show!

The tappers killed it too!

Amy was soooooooooooo good! If she doesn't make top 20 I will be SHOCKED!
I'm glad they gave Jay a chance to dance for his life, he wasn't the ideal partner..However, this is both a solo and pair competition. You have to work together, both partners will have different strengths so help each other out.

I hope Mongolian girl trains the crazy and comes back next year!

Ballroom- (Dmitry & Chelsie)
Chelsie has quite the poker face- I can't tell if she is impressed or not.

I can't even imagining have to dance 24/7 and not getting a lick of sleep!

Groups
The Boston Dance has me in tears! It's so special and they did such a good job combining all of their strengths to give us something beautiful! Hannah has quite the way with words, can she guest "jidge" more please!

Set if off was just the worst song to have the dance to! Show me a group that did well at this song!

Contemporary- (Stacey Tookey)

: O  JENNIFER DIDN'T MAKE IT! I can't even fathom this! She was at the top of my list of favorites!
They asked Jay to dance for his life again but are getting rid of all these dancers that performed 10 times better! I don't get it.

SYTYCD10 Memphis Auditions My POV

Guest "jidge"- Wayne Brady

Dorian "Blueprint" Hector- I don't think there is anyway not to be entertained by someone who has so much control over movement like that.

Curtis Holland- He is out of control! So much enthusiasm, and he was good!

Tucker Knox- He is an unbelievably good dancer.  When people overcome things like this, and are SO good at something that takes so much physicality it is just crazy amazing to me! It also makes me here feeling pretty lame about sitting in by bed watching them, while eating potato chips :|

Random people- I wish we could have seen more! Also, someone complimenting your center is pretty much a better compliment than being on the hot tamale train, but it's at the top of the SYTYCD bucket list! Have Mary Murphy hot tamale train scream for you!

Courtney Thurston- "Where does she keep the lucky pig when she does gigs?" HAHAHA! Loved the tilt into the roll! Crazy! She is a fantastic dancer! DAD HAS A LUCKY PIG TOO!!! I'M DYING!!! I just want her to make it to the tour sooooo bad right now so it can be a lucky pig party!

Shanshan Qiao-Rothlisberger- she's funny! I kind of thought, that they were setting her up to be a joke, but this was so cool to watch! She was captivating, so peaceful!

Nico Greetham- his musicality is intense! Totally agree with Mary that it was too short! Soooooooooo good!

Elyse Frelinger- LOVE HER! so much!

Jenna Johnson- She looks older than 18...I was wondering at first why she was dancing with a 17 year old. Ryan's brother doesn't really look like him. They are REALLY good! She better help him next year!

Novian Yarber- He is like a dancing ninja! Crazy control, except for the very last position! So good!

Isabel Freiberger- this style just captivates me(any Latin really)! Maybe because it is SO OPPOSITE my personality! Lovin it!

Caleb Brauner- Okay, good song choice. I really thought I would hate him, but I really secretly hope he makes it to the top! So entertaining!  His dad is hilarious!

random people- "I want to throw things at you, like cups." -WB

Larry Booze- some MJ feet right there.

Jasmine Harper- Beautiful.

Paige Pellicano- it lacked something. She's good but I didn't feel connected to the dance at all.

Mephis brought it! Don't know if I liked Memphis or Boston better! Can't wait til Vegas week next week! Everyone is obsessed with Blueprint, so who BESIDES Blueprint were you obsessed with tonight!? My vote goes to Elyse! Also, I was obsessed with all the Wayne Brady one liners!

Guest Judge: SHANKMAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Ashley Goldman and
Phillip Kudryavstev- I don't know what I like more, their dance or Adam's reaction to it throughout the entire piece.

Natalie Vilos- I can't stop laughing. Shankman dancing in the lampshade was the best though!!

John Tesoriero-when someone comes out wearing a fake lion's tail...I'm a little scared. This kid is great though!

Katlyn Rodriguez- What an awesome little brother! They were fantastic!!! The costume makes me nervous though!

Jennifer Jones- I LOVE when people dance to older music! She dances like breathing. Reminds me a bit of Eliana.

Tommy Tibball- His feet are crazy...but something about it was weird...i think maybe the hands. I didn't get into it until the music picked up.

Jennie Begley- FANTASTIC! The best technically and most interesting audition of the season thus far.

Jason Kidd- I kinda wish Twitch was a judge right now, this "kidd" is great!

Shannon "Shizzy Shake" Tarantino- LOVE the song choice, I fell in love with it last season! She is CRAZY good!

Elena and Gene Bersten- very good.

Ernest "Enoch" Phillips- I knew that name sounded familiar, his first audition was one of the funniest auditions ever! I'm crying. I really hope he kicks butt in choreo!

Alexis Juliano- Not a big fan of the song choice for the most part, just kinda unoriginal. I really liked it at the end though during the whistling because it really showed her off!

Anthony Bryant- This guy should be embarrassed by his attitude in the past. I suppose I give him props for coming back. I don't understand the costume, but he's doing good. They send him to choreo and he says he doesn't want to. Does he not know choreo is the show?!? What an attitude! He's not going to make it in the industry if this is how he acts.

Anthony Savoy- wow. I was scared that they were really sending him to choreography instead of to Vegas.

Kate Kapshandy-  the entrance was funny.  She was great. HAHAHAHA SHANKMAN'S BRUNO with Vegas Baby at the end is hilarious! Can we get that as a ringtone please?

Toshihiko Nakazawa- "video game style" sooooooooo entertaining. If he makes it onto the show and he were to dance for his life he would stay almost every time.

In my opinion these were the best auditions by far! Jennie Begley was my favorite so far! Who's yours?
